Thanksgiving Story

Stories make for the most interesting part of any traditions. The Thanksgiving story concerns the pilgrims who found food and managed to survive in the biting winter.

The pilgrims on the Mayflower sailed to the United States of America. The pilgrims were originally found to be the
members of the English separatist church. The Thanksgiving story is believed to be the most alluring story. The December 11th 1620, the pilgrims reached Plymouth Rock.

The pilgrims experienced a callous, miserable and overwhelming winter. Out of the original 102 who had sailed 46 were lost.

The people found abundant harvest in the year 1621. They then began to celebrate this harvest with a sumptuous feast. This feast was celebrated along with the 91 Indians who lent a helping hand by teaching them cooking and
helped them survive in the harsh winter. The Thanksgiving story at this point becomes more fascinating. The Thanksgiving story is simply an excuse of going back to the past and recollecting the days of the pilgrims.

The Thanksgiving feast that was held was celebrated more as a harvest festival than a proper Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving celebration lasted for four days. Governor William Bradford sent four men going after wild geese and ducks.
One cannot be fully sure if they used to have wild turkey for their Thanksgiving feast but one thing they certainly had was the animal protein. The pilgrims used the word turkey as it meant any sort of wild fowl. In later years the turkey came to be the most famous Thanksgiving dish and is had even to this day. So as the Thanksgiving approaches prepare yourself to tell the Thanksgiving story in the most appealing manner.
