The Little Pilgrim

(Bob Tucker)

Cranberries dripping down my chin

Have stained my pilgrim suit.

I ate too much Thanksgiving day

But I don't give a hoot.

I slurped a pile of dressing,

Gobbled down a turkey thigh,

Dribbled messy cranberries

Devoured some pumpkin pie.

Within me on this special day

It's a thankful heart that beats.

For all the things that I enjoy

But mainly for the eats.

A Thanksgiving Prayer

(Jim Smith)

T hank you Father for the blessings you've given this day.

H elp us to remember, Thou has shown us the way.

A nd give us strength to help those in need.

N ever letting us forget, Thy merciful deeds.

K eep us in Thy tender loving care.

S ave us, O Lord, when we are in despair!

G ive us grace as we walk through life.

I nspire us to seek our brothers amid the strife.

V ictory in Thee will be our guiding star.

I n courage we march not caring how far.

N ow we ask for the most important thing.

G rant us salvation to escape death's sting.

Harvest

(John Charles McNeill)

Cows in the stall and sheep in the fold;

Clouds in the west, deep crimson and gold;

A heron's far flight to a roost somewhere;

The twitter of killdees keen in the air;

The noise of a wagon that jolts through the gloam

On the last load home.

There are lights in the windows; a blue spire of smoke

Climbs from the grange grove of elm and oak.

The smell of the Earth, where the night pours to her

Its dewy libation, is sweeter than myrrh,

And an incense to Toil is the smell of the loam

On the last load home.

Thanksgiving

(Lizelia Augusta Jenkins Moorer)

Let us give thanks to God above,

Thanks for expressions of His love,

Seen in the book of nature, grand

Taught by His love on every hand.

Let us be thankful in our hearts,

Thankful for all the truth imparts,

For the religion of our Lord,

All that is taught us in His word.

Let us be thankful for a land,

That will for such religion stand;

One that protects it by the law,

One that before it stands in awe.

Thankful for all things let us be,

Though there be woes and misery;

Lessons they bring us for our good-

Later 'twill all be understood.

Thankful for peace o'er land and sea,

Thankful for signs of liberty,

Thankful for homes, for life and health,

Pleasure and plenty, fame and wealth.

Thankful for friends and loved ones, too,

Thankful for all things, good and true,

Thankful for harvest in the fall,

Thankful to Him who gave it all.

The Feast-time of the Year

(Dora Read Goodale)

This is the feast-time of the year,

When plenty pours her wine of cheer,

And even humble boards may spare

To poorer poor a kindly share.

While bursting barns and granaries know

A richer, fuller overflow.

And they who dwell in golden ease

Blest without toil, yet toil to please.

How to observe Thanksgiving

(Author Unknown)

Count your blessings instead of your crosses;

Count your gains instead of your losses.

Count your joys instead of your woes;

Count your friends instead of your foes.

Count your smiles instead of your tears;

Count your courage instead of your fears.

Count your full years instead of your lean;

Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.

Count your health instead of your wealth;

Count on God instead of yourself.

Thanksgiving is....

(Author Unknown)

Thanksgiving is a

time of gratitude to God,

our Creator and Provider,

whose guidance and care

go before us...

and whose love

is with us forever.

Thanksgiving is a time

to reflect on the changes,

to remember that we, too,

grow and change

from one season of life to another.

Thanksgiving is a time

of changing seasons,

when leaves turn golden

in Autumn's wake

and apples are crisp

in the first chill breezes of fall.

Let us remember the true meaning

of Thanksgiving.

As we see the beauty

of Autumn, let us acknowledge

the many blessings

which are ours...

let us think of our families

and friends..

and let us give thanks in our hearts.

Gathering Leaves

(Robert Frost)

Spades take up leaves

No better than spoons,

And bags full of leaves

Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise

Of rustling all day

Like rabbit and deer

Running away.

But the mountains I raise

Elude my embrace,

Flowing over my arms

And into my face.

I may load and unload

Again and again

Till I fill the whole shed,

And what have I then?

Next to nothing for weight,

And since they grew duller

From contact with earth,

Next to nothing for color.

Next to nothing for use.

But a crop is a crop,

And who's to say where

The harvest shall stop?

Thanksgiving Is a Moment to Remember

T hanksgiving is a moment to remember

H ow little we can do to move the stars.

A ll we are and have we must surrender,

N or is Earth less inscrutable than Mars.

K nowing this, we know the need for friends

S haring both our pleasures and our pain,

G iving, though it may not serve their ends,

I n joy the love that will our love sustain.

V ery much like water in a lake,

I n sum we serve as mirrors to the sky.

N o one alone can heaven's picture take.

G iven friends, we know the reason why.
