Christmas Tree Traditions

One of the important Christmas traditions is decorating the Christmas tree. The Christmas tree tradition dates back to Western Germany in the 16th century. German immigrants first brought them to America about 1700.

Christmas trees became popular among the general population about 1850.Decorating the Christmas tree on Christmas has ancient origins. The Romans celebrated the winter that arrived during December with a fest called Saturnalia in honor of Saturn’s, the god of agriculture. The houses were decorated beautifully and Christmas gifts were exchanged.

In Great Britain priests called Druids used evergreens to decorate the Christmas tree beautifully. The druids believed that decorating the Christmas tree with evergreens would keep away evil spirits.

Germans and Scandinavians in the middle Ages placed Christmas trees inside their homes or outside their doors to show their faith and hope for the forthcoming spring. The Christmas tree traditions began from all these ancient traditions.

It is believed that the Christmas tree originated even before the Christian era. The trees were used for ceremonial purposes. The true meaning of Christmas lies in celebrating it with family and friends, exchanging Christmas gifts, decorating the Christmas tree, singing lovely Christmas carols and eating delicious Christmas recipes.

People like celebrating Christmas having the real Christmas tree decorated beautifully with lights and other Christmas decorations. The Christmas trees prove advantageous as they help to prevent the green house effect. People even to this day believe that the Christmas tree is a secular symbol of hope for the future.

The true spirit of Christmas celebrations comes from following the traditions of decorating the Christmas tree.
