In England Christmas traditions include serving Christmas dinner to the entire family. Christmas trees are beautifully decorated and the people of England enjoy lovely Christmas music on Christmas. In the Middle Ages people who put on masks were called mummers. They enacted Christmas plays. Even to this day one can find these Christmas plays performed in towns and villages. Mummering is one of the important Christmas traditions in England.
  • The English consider Father Christmas as the gift giver. It is believed that Father Christmas who wears a long red robe leaves Christmas gifts in stockings on Christmas Eve. The Christmas gifts are not opened until the afternoon of Christmas Eve.

  • The children in England leave empty stockings at the end of their beds hoping to see it filled with Christmas gifts on Christmas.

  • Frumenty is a Christmas dinner that is eaten by the English on Christmas. This is a kind of porridge made of corn. The recipe although the same now other things like fruits and dried plums are added making it a pudding.

  • Christmas in England is followed by the Boxing Day. This is celebrated the next day after Christmas. During this day boys in clay boxes collect money and the boxes are broken when they are full.

  • Pantomimes are songs and dance dramatizations of well-known fairy tales that encourage the people in England to participate in various activities. These are more popular among children.

  • Christmas carols are sung by groups of singers on Christmas. Christmas gifts for the families are placed beneath the Christmas trees.

  • Many families attend Christmas services at church on Christmas. Christmas cake, which is a rich baked fruitcake with marzipan, icing and sugar frosting, is served on Christmas.
  •
