Though many new theories throw light on many new aspects like our erroneous concept of confining the number of wise men to three on the basis of there being three gifts which remains totally unsupported in any Scripture and the names of the wise men being Gaspar, Balthasar, and Melchior according to an unknown legend. The much professed fact that they were kings is based on an equally unfounded idea that has been deduced from the Isaiah 60:3.

Contrary to our beleifs, Mens were not Mencians but wise men who hailed from noble families, were well educated, wealthy and influential. | They were regarded as philosophers and were well versed in all the wisdom of the ancient East.They were not mere idolaters but upright men of integrity who were inspired by the Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament.
Their reading of the Hebrew Scriptures made them realise that Daniel’s prophecy would soon come true and when on the night of Christ's birth, a mysterious light appeared in the sky which became a luminous star that persisted in the western heavens, their belief turned into faith and they were instructed in their dreams to go in search of the Messiah.
