Sacred heart of Jesus Christ is of immense importance in the Christian religion. According to the beliefs of Catholics, the symbol of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a powerful image of the love of God who delivered Himself up to death for us.

In the image of sacred heart, Christ's heart is shown containing wounds to which Jesus is pointing, including a crown of thorns.

Even some Catholics have been critical of the overly sentimental nature of such devotion but most of these critics concede that the images essentially reflect the core Christian doctrine of love
