Children often put on a Nativity Play, which is accompanied by choir songs in the vernacular so as to make them feels that God speaks their language. Sometimes these services and dancing go on all night long! Christmas Eve is also celebrated with fireworks and revelry. On Christmas day, people dress in their traditional attire. After the service, the children are given gifts including chocolates, cookies, crackers, clothes, or books. They are told that they are gifts from Father Christmas, which was a tradition prevalent during the colonial times of Ghana.

The Christmas Eve feast consists of rice and goat or chicken stew. After that the annual Christmas Eve service and worship takes place. On Christmas Day, the feast comprises chicken or lamb. Ghanaians also usually eat oranges, mangoes, and other fruits. The Akan word Afishapa - “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”- is often used to greet one another.
